Parks & Open Spaces
CANTELOWES GARDENS Location: Camden Town, London Client: London Borough of Camden This park in North London presented a complexity of issues to be resolved to meet the aspirations of various local groups. The renovation of an existing poorly used, run-down open space required the formulation of innovative facilities and experiences, including a state-of-the-art skate park, play areas, quiet undulating reading lawn, sports facilities and a clubhouse for the diverse range of users in the locality. Throughout the project the local community, particularly from members of the skating community, was involved in decisions made in order for a cohesive solution to be achieved. New paths enable passage through the park, as well as access to the new facilities, providing a good level of vigilance. Accessibility to the surrounding area ensure that this new asset is inclusive to both local residents and visitors, providing an enjoyable respite from the busy adjacent Camden Road.
