THAMES WALKWAY Location: Thames north side between Tower Bridge and Leamouth Peninsular Client: London Borough of Tower Hamlets The London Borough of Tower Hamlets commissioned Steer Davies Gleave and Dally Henderson to develop a design guide aimed specifically at the areas of riverside walkway between Tower Bridge and Leamouth Peninsular along the north bank of the Thames. The final output for this project was a comprehensive guide covering; Enhancement of legibility of the route, safety and security for users, accessibility for all users, the quality of the public realm and potential to create new public spaces, interpretation and reflecting on the historic activities and events along the route, improving interaction with the waterfront and planting and soft landscape. The guide also included advice on signage and wayfinding best practice, a detailed palette of hard landscaping and street furniture options and two case study proposals to demonstrate how the guide brings the various elements together. The two case study projects have since been implemented by LB Tower Hamlets.
